Inequality is a mural installation where the mathematical symbol of inequality billed in gold metal and slightly backlit on a black wall is shown. Gold, economics, mathematics, rigorous calculation and profit: inequality. The instrumental reason that dominates our societies is based on the quantifier. Economic values are based on quantities; ethical values are based in qualities. Inequality is a work of indirect access to the truth, through a symbolic sense. Symbol and matter are intertwined to create a sense of luxury. A luxury that hides the harsh reality, an essentially global problem: inequality. The fact that this luxury item is present in the spaces of the art world, alongside other luxury items (artworks) also encourages reflection on the role of this realm, the market-art institution, in the perpetuation of non-egalitarian and unfair system.
