“Years of Social Security Contributions by Artists in Spain” is a devastating graphic turned into a large wall painting which reveals the harsh reality of a sector in which over 83% of this workers have made less than five years of Social Security contributions and just 1.7 % have between 26 and 35 years. This work belongs to PSJM’s series “social geometry”, whose minimalist compositions are based on statistical data which, in this case sets its sights on one of the collective’s ongoing missions: to fight for the statute of artists and for decent working conditions. This work sources its content in the most thorough study to date on this issue in Spain: “La actividad económica de los/las artistas en España” [Economic Activity of Artist in Spain] by Marta Pérez Ibáñez and Isidro López-Aparicio.
